Barry, Founder and Managing Director

I’m the Founder and Managing Director at San-iT, so of course I’ve been here since the start, back in 2007.

My role now is about shaping the business and its route forward, making sure our services are aligned to that, and developing new ways of working. I’m still involved in scoping out projects, and try to get out and see clients whenever I can. Those relationships are important to me and many of them are long-standing.

I started off in in-house IT support, working my way up, but ended up in a cycle of joining a business, introducing new systems and processes and then finding I was a victim of my own success with few meaningful challenges left to deal with day to day. So, I set out on my own, starting with laptop repairs and support contracts, and the business grew from there. My passion for helping people, and my belief that technology can have a big impact on working lives and business growth drove my success, and eventually it was time to start adding to the team. I’ve never looked back.

From the very beginning, the ‘People First’ approach has been at the heart of San-iT. You could say we’re a family business, with Louise and I working closely together, but the whole team is part of that working family. In the early days it could be tough to find people with the right expertise and analytical abilities who could also be creative and build strong relationships with customers. We’ve put a lot of hard work into building the culture we have today, where people feel supported and empowered, and that they have the chance to excel. I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved.

I’m still passionate about technology and keep up to date with the latest developments – attending webinars, reading white papers and listening to tech podcasts. We’re always looking for the next technology that’s going to help our clients to work smarter and operate safer. Cyber security is one of my main areas of interest – understanding the latest breaches and the remedies. That interest has led to the development of our Cyber Security services so that we can offer a much more strategic and forward-thinking solution.

Away from technology and work, I love spending time outdoors, but my other main passion is my family, so spending time together is important.
